Before During After Kudos go out to PK and G Diddy for finishing up the siding and the deck railing for me. |

Re: Done With The Sunroom
man....you have surely increased the value of that place!
I have a few perplexing questions. Like wtf is the chimney FLOATING for!?!? And "did you hear banjos every day?" ![]() How about "are those FJ's going through the rim, like cantilevered?" do I see DeWalt power tools hanging in the tree? OK....I'll stop for now.

Re: Done With The Sunroom
Yeah. When I was going to demo the existing structure I was trying to figure a way to brace all that brick up.
Then I actually got up there and found out it was painted brick pattern on some kind of tin. The whole thing is just a plywood chase. It is optically cool though. Yeah...out in the sticks huh? It is very damp and mossy. We did a little trig and determined that the HOs have a bunch of 180' tall cedars and DF. Quote:

Wallmaxx, is that house in as rough of shape as it appears from the photos? ![]() Are those hog panels on the deck railing? Looks nice.

Re: Done With The Sunroom
That is cool, man! The blocking makes the roof look like is a buncha stacked Lego pieces!
Talk to me for a second about the gable wall, would ya? Glu-Lam beams blind fastened to built up 2x lams? What was the process? Good lookin' addition, though. Perfect framing, always nice to see your projects... Mac |

Re: Done With The Sunroom
More here
This is another Lindal Cedar Home project. This time a sunroom. They design and send out everything precut to fit whatever the sales guy measures in his initial visit. The main room had a span of 16'-2". Every post was notched 1/2" to allow the header beams to sit in them. The headers had angled holes predrilled with a 1/4" hole and a 1"hole so a lag and washer could be impacted in from the top. Everything was hidden lagged from all kinds of factory drilled angles. Once the post and beam system was in place...the rest was traditional nailing / screwing. I almost cut a header to "make it fit"...but I checked the popped lines one final time and found that I had made the smaller deck outer wall...parallel to the un-square original home rather than truly square. Once I fixed that...the piece fit without cutting. Of all the post and beams pieces...I did not cut a single one. It was actually cool how well it went together. You just have to make sure your framing is dead on for what they are sending to sit on it. |

Back in Houston I called it cattle guard...but I hear hog fencing here in WA state. The house is over 80 years old...I think it has a cedar log foundation on the original part. Then the first addition is HO poured concrete. He's quite a versatile guy. The siding is 24" long pieces of cedar - we couldn't find anyone who makes the stuff anymore...so the HO just removed what he needed from his barn. Just for the record. I was only deeply involved in the structural framing through dry-in, set the windows / doors, deck framing and planks and the initial siding from the street side. I must give credit to another contractor / remodeler who has a knack with matching up new with old. He tied the rest of the siding in and built the deck railing. I don't have the eye to do that kind of remodel like other do. We call him PIE eater. Last edited by wallmaxx; 02-12-2009 at 01:33 AM. |
