Bouncing Floors
I need to add support to my existing floor joists 2 x 8 spanning 11'6" w/ 1 row of blocking. I was thinking of adding 1/2 ply to each side, glued and stapled. I don't know if this will add to much additional weight to the floor? Or adding 2 more rows of blocking?

Re: Bouncing Floors
What about sistering joists or depending on spacing/heat runs/electrical/plumbing add another floor joist in between existing.
Bridging might help, but I dont think it will "fix" the problem. |

Re: Bouncing Floors
'Sistering' would be the way to go, IMHO. Stick with the glue idea and use the fasteners as permenant clamps. Most of todays glues are tougher than what they are holding together.
In essence, you will have 4X8's as opposed to the 2X's. If you can spare a few inches below, go to 10's or 12's. Not much price difference considering the labor. The ply might work providing that you could find 12' sheets. I can get them to 16' but you aren't going into a box store and they start to get pricey.

Re: Bouncing Floors
“Sistering” should work for this instance…..
“Sistering” unfortunately never works in the dating scene…and even when it did, it stopped when the other sister found out.

Re: Bouncing Floors
Glued plywood seems like unnecessary cost and work. Why not add new 2x8's next to the existing ones since the span isn't great? You might get away with adding a few LVL's near the center.
