Bostich 'rapatap' Nailgun
I needed a 'rap-a-tap' (what they're called here) gun - nail gun that shoots nails for hurricane clips/joist hangers, etc
I got the Bostich $220 model today at Lowe's - anyone got one? heard anything bad/good? MHM |

Re: Bostich 'rapatap' Nailgun
We have one, but a different brand. It was a welcome replacement to our old palm nailer
![]() Edit: I'm just starting to get my hearing back, now that I stopped using that thing!

Re: Bostich 'rapatap' Nailgun
I had (stolen) the Paslode positive placement nailer, and when I bought it, it was over $400. So post back here with your results from using it. I'm interested in how well the placement tip works on that Bostich - looks alot different than the Paslode. The price looks good, but I've not had good luck with Bostich framing guns for everyday use tools, although it's been 7-8 years since I had any.

Re: Bostich 'rapatap' Nailgun
We use the Bostich gun and it works great, one shot one kill type. Only complaint I have is that it only holds one clip at a time. I would like to get the Max gun which is a coil type so I would spend less time reloading.

Re: Bostich 'rapatap' Nailgun
Out of all my nail guns this one is great, until it gets any moisture or sand in it. It jams up and retains the piston at least every time I use it and has become quite the annoyance. That being said, as long as you take the time to keep it clean and oiled it will be great. Neglect it, and it will neglect you right back.

Re: Bostich 'rapatap' Nailgun
Lots of framers around me had the Bostich rap a taps and I didn't seem to hear much complainng about them, but as the codes require more and more hangers and metal strap connections, they are switching over to the positive palcement guns because they are much faster.

Re: Bostich 'rapatap' Nailgun
I have also been looking at some rap-a-taps. Saw and Liked the Senco, though it was nothing more than my palm nailer with a Positive placement-tip and a rack for clips. Thought about getting one, but as I already had the Palm, couldn't justify the cost. I usually just have the framers build it and have an apprentice come back and set the hangers/Simpsons. I would like to find/see a One-shot nailer though! THAT would save copious amounts of time.
I'll wait and see if Ridgid is going to come out with something. They have a knack for taking all the best designs and integrating them. |

Re: Bostich 'rapatap' Nailgun
Paslode Positive Placement or TECO nailer is great. It is large, but like someone said before it is powerful. It is large like a regular framer 400. Overall the best positive placement gun available. The only downfall is that the nails are special and tough to find. Can not find them at box stores.

Re: Bostich 'rapatap' Nailgunthats the one i have. the local lumber supplier had 3 of them in the box and one out of the box for cheap one day. i bought one and my framing contractor bought one. they make things alot faster. and so far no problems at all. other than the pricey nails |

Re: Bostich 'rapatap' Nailgun
I have the Paslode. I went with it over the Bostitch because the Bostitch will only shoot 1 1/2" nails & you have to calculate the load reduction. The Paslode will do 1 1/2" & 2 1/2". No issues with it, love it. It is quite big though, but the 2 1/2" nail capacity makes up for it in my book.
Nails are hard to find as mentioned, I get mine from Nailgundepot.com. |
