Beam To Post Connector
Again, screen porch with shed roof blah, blah, blah. Recommendations for Simpson tie to attach 6x6 post to 3 1/2 inch beam on outboard end? My feeble mind says the CCQ variety would suffice but that may be way overkill...not to mention the difference in post-beam sizes. I'd like to keep the beam at 3 1/2 if possible.
Another option is to go with a prefab 6x6 hollow column and run all-thread all the way through the top of the beam. This would allow me to position the beam where I need it on the 6x6. Really what I'm looking for is some estimate on uplift for the roof.(porch is 10 ft. deep and 18 ft. wide). I'm also in hurricane-prone area. Any suggestions? |

Re: Beam To Post Connector
You should remember that you are a contractor not a structural engineer.
If you design the detail and it fails. It's your ass not to mention your license. The architect for the job is responsable for providing you the detail. He should get it from the structural engineer of record. A contractor's responsability is to build what's on the drawings. Not to design and calculate the loads. |

Re: Beam To Post Connector
Simpson CCQ46SDS2.5 fits a 6x post and a 4x beam. No problem w/ beam and posts being different sizes.
Ayan's got it - pay the engineer for the specs, build to those specs, everyone's happy (and safe). Mac |
