Your 2x10's must be 9-1/8" to get that. Are they always 9-1/8"? I get 3-1/2" because our 2x10's are mostly 3-1/2" Sometimes you get a 9-3/8" 2x10.

Still can't believe that there are no starir companies out wher all you guys are. The stairs are cheaper when you have them built at a shop. Alot less material and labor. A stair company would make a killing where all you guys are from.

Our 2x10s are almost always 9 1/8 - 1/4 I've seen them differ by 3/8 it really is a pita for cutting trimmers but the 2x12s are consistantly 11 1/8

Hey Wallmaxx, I'm starting to think you spend an equal amount of time on both the jobsite and your computer between all the AutoCAD documents, framing spec sheets and now this quicktime video. I gotta say though that music on your stair video was epic.

sleep....that's for babies and old folks. I rarely get off the computer before midnight. No TV for me.

Once my 5 year old is asleep I can get 4 hours in online and doing CAD (if the wife is busy)

Re: 2x12 Or 2x10

We always use 2x12s. My supplier (3 minutes away from home!!) has the appearance grade 2x12s that are always straight as an arrow.
Joe Carola is right, usually a bit cheaper to order the stairs but their lead time varies greatly, if they're backed up (like they are now) it can be 4-6 wks away, which usually means we build them ourselves!

You should try easy riser:

http://www.ufpi.com/PRODUCT/easyriser/ezfb.htm

Did an interior stair a few years ago with them and it was a joy, perfectly level and staight stairs, it made trimming the stairs much easier.

Re: 2x12 Or 2x10

LVLs if I can use them. 12-16" oc. If i use 2x12's I put them 12" oc. adding extra stringers doesn't add much time and it really beefs the stairs up. I like solid stairs. Make a template for all my stairs out of 2 pieces of 1/4" luan ply glued together. rough cut with skil saw and then clean them up with router. Dead nuts every time. I hate trimming out stairs that guys cut with skil saws.
