19-1/4" Lvl

How far can I clear span with a LVL that is 3-1/2" x 19-1/4"?
The beam will be in the first floor ceiling, supporting the second story and roof. It will replace a bearing wall in the center of the house on the first floor. The second floor joists will have to hang on it as well as support the bearing wall on the second floor.

You need an engineer to figure that out.

OK, I always got plans with the size on them and the GC had always ordered them. I just got this one from a garage and figured I would use it in my house. I thought maybe there was a chart or something they used.

When you build the house, it better be on the plans. The inspector will look at the house, look at the plans, and then ask "how did you know what to use here?" If it's not on the plans, you better get a stamped drawing from the engineer because the inspector is going to ask for it.

Do you know if the left hand toe nails are in this same section? I do have to go pick up a new board stretcher for the 2x4 I cut to short & when I cut it again it was still to short..

hahaha we use to joke about picking up a can of AIR, while going for the sky hook, now you actually can and it cost money to boot, lol..

Don't forget there are garage beams and then there are house beams. Make sure you don't get the wrong one. I've heard that if you do, it will blow a hole in the universe.

PS. Nothing like starting out with a new "identity" and a little fun huh?
PSS. Could of added in a "how much would it cost to install a 19 1/4" lvl."

It might be a glu-lam some genius cut down instead of building it right, anyway I've found if I let the air out of the portable compressor it's 120 pounds lighter, much easier to carry!!!! Most of my new laborers say they can't tell the diff, but it's a good way to get it drained everyday!!!

They make them bigger than that. Like 24" x 60 feet

a 20" lvl measures 19 1/4 "

Those are actual sizes guys. You order a 20" LVL, it comes 20", not 19¼"

Not arguing that Framerman. I was just showing bighammer an answer to his post about the 20" even being available.
