If I was the client, $100 sounds like a good price to me.

If I was the contractor, $100,000 sounds like a good price to me.

Somewhere in between you'll find your ideal price.

Well, where are you located?

How long will it take you to install one window? Answer x 23

What overhead costs do you have?

How much do you want to make?

= Total Job $$

Scott,

If you don't know how long it will take you, then you're off to a very difficult start. There are just too many variables involved for someone here to tell you what to charge.

I don't know what to tell you. I'm going to assume you have experience installing windows such as these. So with that, you should be able to go over every step in your mind and calculate your time. It may take you a few hours to calculate it all, but I see no other way.

Tell the customer you don't think it's fair to yourself or him to use a fixed price because you have no idea what you are doing. Explain since this will be an educational process for you that you think $5.50 an hour is fair. You'll get to learn how to install windows and learn how to figure your time and expenses and he will get what he pays for.

Not knowing (at least approximately) how long it will take would indicate a lack of experience, - - at least as far as installing windows, -- which is OK in itself, - - but how in the world would anyone even be able to help you with absolutely no details.

It's like going to a dealer and asking "how much for a new car"??

Is it . . .

New work??

Old work??

Flanged windows??

What size??

Casement??

Double-hung??

Bay??

Bow??

Anti-corrosive hardware??

What kind of windows being removed??

What kind of siding??

Casings involved??

J-channel involved??

Shutters involved??

Paint (or stain) and trim inside??

1st floor??

2nd floor??

See what I mean,?? That's just a few . . .

I guess I like the answers to these types of questions better than the questions them self.

There are always very creative answers. . . .

I wasn't asking for a finished bid just an idea or estimate of what others may charge for installing an anderson window. Of course I could come up with a price on my own figuring hours but I figured there may be some what of a base price on these.

In Chicago your looking at 125-250 depending on replacement window, new construction. I do windows really cheap for one they are very easy to me. I did 23 windows- vinyl replacement, took the old window out and put them in in 6 hours. More info would be good- IE do you have to trim out the window when they are in? Do you have to re-frame out the window once the original window is out?

Its a new construction two story home and it does not include trimming out the windows just installing them. Half the windows upstairs and the windows range 2'4" by 2'4" being the smallest to 6' by 5' being the largest. 4'4" ends up being the average size of the windows.

Figure 2 installers since the impact windows are very heavy. Charge by the pound and you can make some good money.

If this is a F&I (furnish and install) make sure the client is aware of how hard they are to open and close and the sash weight when you tilt them to clean them. The design headaches should not become your headaches.

That is what they normally charge. I do not charge that. I got a qoute of 14 windows for 170 each. I like to call in stuff I need done at my house to see how I price myself. I am around 100 or so dollars myself and that includes doing the window trim inside and out. I have a painter that will painter for 20 dollars an hour, he is really really good and I told him to charge me more and he said nope I like 20 and that is where we are going to keep it.

HAHA if I could keep like 3 window jobs a month I would be set! The truth is a I had 4 different window people come to my house and bid out just the upstairs windows. There are 15 windows upstairs 2 of them are 3.0x3.0 and the rest are 4.0x3.0. Just for labor he wanted 300 a window I supply the parts and trim, Granted the upstairs windows are 14 foot up on a ladder but they were wood interior vinyl exterior. I laughed when he left for a good hour- then the next 2 come later that week and the lowest I could get them was 175 a window.

I did the 23 windows in a flip house so I could do some damage to the outside of the house. We were replacing the siding.
