It depends do you keep your keys in your pocket or do you clip the Mercedes key on your hip or pants loop where it is visible to the customer?

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves, you act like this is a friggin' fraternity. I think 20.00 a door is a good price, gimme 100.00 and I'd become a trim carpenter myself. Pass the beer bong, please.

if you reread my posts, it will become clear to your high ass that I never said it wasn't a good price...in fact, I told him to do it for that amount...

but, hey are you a sheetrocker by chance?

You would be happy with 20 bucks a door? Really? Seriously?

Or were you talking about 100.00?

maybe a better question could have been how long does it take for others to hang such and such type a door....then maybe you could compare that to what you are doing and see if you are in the ball park or not.....

True custom work is a whole other gig. I try not to do cracker boxes anymore.
who moves the doors into location? heck, it could take 15-20 mins a door to get it off the truck, inventoried and placed in the right location...

Re: What Do I Charge?

I signed him up for one of my new construction coaching classes.

After seeing how easy it was to convince him to sign up, I am thinking about doing the coaching thing full time.

What do you guys think I should charge?????????????????

Re: What Do I Charge?

Could RB have been making a point? He may have been trying to make a correlation between lifestyle and what one charges. Drive a ****ty truck or even a car to a job, have ****ty tools and have a poor appearance and yea all I would expect a customer to pay is $20.

I drive a nice truck, have nice tools (and the proper tool for the job), and do what I know is a nice job. I also charge a lot compared to most of you and less than some others. I also close almost all of my jobs. I’m always busy and never advertise. Get what you can and make sure it is at least as much as you need. By need I am referring to the amount one must make to do the job properly, pay the bills, and still have some left over for savings and fun. I would never do a door for $20. But you can. Have fun doing it, I charge a lot but I don’t run around to get the job done to get my hourly rate up. The customer always gets what they pay for.

edit: sorry guys I'm not the cheap guy either, but let me hang a house full of "builders quality" doors @ 100.00 each and I'll quit hanging rock. Or is that throwing??

I'm still waiting for that beer.

Re: What Do I Charge?

I think I have to charge more to hang a shiity door than a quality one. Oh the story I have about a BIG insurance contractor around here. Here are a whole bunch of Luan pre-hung POS doors, can you install them? Ok, all had to be cut off because some genious forgot about the 2 extra layers of sub floor they put down (oh, but it was all sheet flooring that makes a big difference?) You guys every cut the bottom off one of those POS? How about the two doors that they were too lazy to have made and I had to take them apart and narrow them up. More like 300.00 bucks a door for those. When do people realize I cant let you suckle on my titty and spoon feed you everything? Go Figure it out, and if it is too cheap you will know it as well as if it was too expensive!!
