I like the second one, and have you thought of a square edge 1"x3/4", I have been digging the mission stile a lot lately, less is more and what not, the ppl with the money seem to like it

Re: Which Way Would You Go?

I agree #2 looks more balanced. Following on Basswood's idea about the hood being the centerpiece the #2 option creates a nice area for some type of detail (routing) between the upper and lower trim.

Very nice work!

#1 with a 1/2" 1/2 round at bottom. Great looking work and that island looks like it will weigh a ton. Again, nice, nice, work.

We may end up with something at the bottom of the bolection molding option. Leo said so.

The island breaks down into several parts for delivery.

#1 matches the style of the door profiles and panel mouldings. I agree you need to do something with the bottom, perhaps a light rail that is consistent with the other moulding contours?

edit: are you doing a light rail on the wall cabs?

I realise the compucarve is a pathetic excuse for a cnc, but i will be able to do some detailed trim pieces with it. I think it iwill be worth the cost. What do you think?

This kitchen really only has that one upper shown upside down. The bottom rail is the light rail.

It is supposed to look like this.

which way would you go?-parkside2.jpg

I think you would have a tough time carving with one of those, it would be difficult with a top of the line CNC. Just the 2D vectoring would be very time consuming...even with good software.

I am not real familiar with it. But it seems like fun.

We are talking about this right?

It may be just a gateway tool to the hard stuff. Be careful
I think you should do it if you are inspired to. Open a whole new world for you.

I have seen it do some really cool stuff, and yes that is the machine I am looking at. You can buy a kit, which has a mapping probe and software so it will map anything in 3d you put in the machine. And I am already a serious tool junkie; I just don’t have your budget... yet... lol...

It's not that I don't believe it could be done, what I doubt is that it could be custom programed and made from scratch on that machine.

As Scribbles pointed out it uses a digitizer for the 3D stuff which to me is a video game version of a stylus for a pantograph. You can copy something but thats about it.

You may also run into ramping and climb cutting issues when the digitizer is programing for you. This will lead to tear out problems in most of the wood species we work with.

Ask the salesman to show you the procedure for custom carving something from start to finish and let us know how it goes.

Re: Which Way Would You Go?

That is a problem, most of the sears salesmen don’t know how to turn it on let alone use it.

I like number 1 with the addition of a drip cap turned 90 to add depth and angle to the bottom

Gorgeous work Gus. I'd love to see the completed kitchen. Maybe you mentioned this, but what's the finish to be?

(And my vote is double bolection...with the lower one inverted.)
