Thanks Bodger,

I was a fun little project. My editor/photographer at Fine Homebuilding was not able to make it out to shoot that job, but offered yesterday to buy a vanity and the materials to customize another one. He wants to fly out and do a photo shoot in my shop. I'm thinking man it's a mess out there.

Gotta go get that place organized.

I was thinking that adding a touch latch would work great for the drawer. Then you could just give it a kick and it would open, but then you might get some accidental openings.

I agree that the touch latch sounds like a good idea and a bad idea.

Re: Vanity Toekick Space Step-stool/Storage

So, I already mentioned, in the "Good News" thread, that this "Vanity Step-stool" is gonna turn into a Fine Homebuilding mag. article... now I get to build another one for a local showroom. So my project will be on display locally (with a framed copy of the FHB article).

This made my day!

Maybe if some of you like the idea, you can build one for a showroom near you. Could bring you and a plumbing showroom some business.

Re: Vanity Toekick Space Step-stool/Storage

Here is the vanity I retrofitted with a step stool this week. This one uses library step stool casters that allow the stool to roll while unloaded, but lock securely when any weight is applied.

This version, with casters, will work with out-of-level floors and the stool can be used elsewhere (not attached to the vanity, as the prior model with drawer guides).

Pretty slick!
I like the library casters.

These casters are from Gross Stabil and are very nice. The casters do use up room inside the box... so I did not bother to make a hinged lid for storage inside.

I am thinking of putting an oval hole for a top handle in this too.

Just messin' around,

Bass
