U Had To See!
I saw some thing at an estimate for crown and I had to tell you guys. The previous owner was getting crown done and in the mean time lost his house. the new owner called me to finish and what I saw blew me away. Turret wall, The installer didn't use flex moulding...He cut about 30+ small 6" or so pieces either mitred or spliced together! I started to laugh, but I realized that I was laughing at my clients house and probably wouldn't help to get the job.

Re: U Had To See!
My buddy put crown up in his house and bragged about how good it turned out. I went over to put my seal of approval on it and it was installed flat on the wall like chair rail. I still give him hell about it, its still up like that. I tried to tell him to wait till I had a day off to help him.....

Re: U Had To See!
I am working at a house here in Texas that must have used the same trim man! On this curved wall they cut dozens of 4" pieces to complete the curve. What's worse, in small rooms (like the bathroom) they butt spliced on an 8' wall! the inside corners look to be coped, but there is at least a 1/4-3/8" caulked gap in every corner?
And of course, after 15 years, most of it is pulling away from the ceiling. Steve |

A year or so, maybe 2 ?,there was an article in Journal of Light construction on how to do this. It explained the math to determine cuts etc. Previous installer probably saw it thought it was a good idea. Maybe he wrote the article? |
