Trimming A Steel House

Hey, anyone out there please give me some feed back on this one . Went to check out a new job prospect the other day, same old meet with the builder /owner and bam we walk into the house and its all steel , I mean everything . Steel super structure ,steel studs [2x6] steel truss work ,steel arches , barrel ceilings . Now heres the thing , I've been trimming for over 26 years and with-in this learning period I can't remember anything , other than a basement or two or an office building and along the way I think I hate steel . This job is a 4000 sq home plus the 2000 sq finsh basement which is pretty normal size home for my crew and I to trim . Now that the economy is so wonderful here in Michigan I feel that I have to give this a shot not so much for me and the guys but maybe to keep some buddy carpenters working . Any thoughts

If it isn't drywalled yet -- how about blocking for base and casing?
If it is I think you can shoot a 15ga finish nail into it...
not so sure about the bearing studs though.
Get some scrap and try it?

Contact ET&F (Erico Tool and Fastener) they make the air guns for steel studs, I have a model # 110 works down to 14g studs. Find the local rep and he can 'loan' you the tool if you buy the nails from them. nails are pricey but it is the only way to nail in to steel framing studs.

Re: Trimming A Steel House

Thanks guys,I've herd about the nail gun for steel studs. My first comment to the builder was wood backing. This could take weeks . coffered ceilings barrel ceilings with curved beams , 8' doors ,cabinets, and a paneled study. The exterior doors are already a mess, maybe just another rough carpenter thing we always fix. It seems the curved stairways are being delivered soon and installing them will be another headpounder.
