Trim Scheduling

Hello All; This is my first post, and looking forward to an active participation on this site.

I currently trim for major builders in the Ontario Canada area. My question to you all, is - are there any computer programs that aid in trim scheduling/organizing that you have found to be handy?

Re: Trim Scheduling

A lot of builders have gone to all electronic/online po systems. On them you get po's, selections, prints, tentative scheduling, submittal listing, payment schedules, & access to past history, right on your computer. Today, that's what I do 90% of my business on.

Before that, I used to do a spreadsheet with: job # in 1st colm, builders start dates in next, estimated set back in the next, plan model next, $ amt next, job notes in another.

It was awkward at first, but after a while it was 2nd nature & worked well. I usually knew when the supers needed to do final scheduling before they did. It's also nice to be able to show your guys what work is coming up ... when it's busy, & when slow. I always left the $ clmn off what I showed my guys.

For the final scheduling, I found it easiest to just use a monthly planner. From that I generated a weekly schedule for each crew, so they could see what they were working on each day. It left some discretion to the foreman as to where they were headed the next day at the end of each day, without making daily phone calls.

Re: Trim Scheduling

Your right RailMan and thanks.

The key is to hook up the jobs with a po system that can prompt dates, $ amounts, and run reports... thats what i need. Excell works... but its killing me... too much tedius calculations and room for error.

JL trim business is good.

Many years to earn our repuation and get the business we get.
