Thought I'd Give It A Go

Just thought I'd try to post a few pics of a job just finished.

Looks like you had fun
on that one!
Nice work on the stair.
They gave you some wild grain there.

Let's see what you're doing
with that outfeed table?

Re: Thought I'd Give It A Go

Why is the fireplace insert off center? Looks good btw. The return on the mantle piece looks odd, the way one piece goes to the end, then the small detail trim returns into itself.

Looks nice, clean your camera.

One question about the mantle return,

Could you have wraped your 1x8?? with the other stock 1x4?? so it wraped around and returned into the wall?

This would have pulled all that trim around the corner and returned to the wall, instead of returning into itself.

I think it looks great, just asking a question.

It would make that end view
symmetrical.....but I wouldn't
nit pick.

Thanks guys,

The total length of the mantle was over 10', so I used solid stock for the top. Didn't have the width to return the top around the wall and return the 1x8 and 1x4 around the corner. Hindsight suggests that I should have edge glued stock to get the wider width needed.

Thanks Neo,

Don't have any other pics of the outfeed, but it's not high tech- just a door slab with a couple of adj. stands bolted to it.

Re: Thought I'd Give It A Go

Got a question on that continuous wrap on the rail on the bottom stairs. Unless Im seeing it wrong, is that rail bracket holding the rail at that corner? I like the look of a continuous rail now, but it seems that would be a lot for one bracket to hold.

Framerman,

The second set of pics is a remodel, I only did the finish trim-none of the other work or staining. Not sure why it was set up that way. There is another fireplace directly behind this one in the dining area-set up the same way.

OW,

I think that is some tape at the top corner from the stainer. The handrail brackets aren't visable from this angle, but there is one at the top and one at the butt wall. The rest of the rail is supported by the post and ballusters. Hope that answered ur ?

Posted another pic before yours. The handrail bracket at that corner seems to have made the whole rail solid at that point.

BTW- How do you edit pics like that? - pretty cool!

Yeah I was wondering about that. It would seem that it would be a point of stress over time, but it is a short rake run. As long as its sturdy,......cool.
