Speaking Of Glue Ups

When doing glue ups do you prefer an edge from a jointer or a table saw with a fine blade? I realize that a table saw is not practical on longer pieces but I just did some that were 36" or less and it was fairly easy to get nice straight cuts and the slightly rougher surface seems as though it would glue up better. I did run all of mine though the jointer.

All my stock gets a pass through the jointer. If it's multiple board panels, I draw a triangle on them to keep track of orientation. Boards 1, 3, 5 etc, get the face against the fence, while boards 2 & 4 get the back against the fence. Even if the fence isn't perfectly square with the table, the boards will still glue up flat.

I currently have access to a Sawstop table saw and i'd trust that edge with my life. To each his own.

Jointer. I do the same as pinwheel. Except I write "I" and "O" for in and out against the fence.

Re: Speaking Of Glue Ups

It really depends on whether it's a soft or hardwood.

Softwood I'm ok with a quality saw/fence. Hardwoods get jointer before glue-up.
