Space Below A Door

ok I have a job (finally!) to install a door in a wine cellar. I have the new jamb, and the old door. no problem there- what I am wondering is how much clearance from the bottom of the door to the (concrete) floor. The reason that I as is that the HO wants to install a door sill after the fact (why not now???) anyhow I should probably leave some sort of clearance so that the sill can slide underneath. I am thinking about one inch should do it... what do you all think?

the HO wants to install some weather seal so that the room remains cold- essentially it will be an outside door installation, only inside, so this is the reason for the sill.

Look around for the drop down weatherstripping, when the door closes a little button is depressed and the weatherstripping drops. Installing a sill on crecrete after the fact is a pain in the..

204…you said you landed a job finally, you do not have the proper information to determine how much to cut off the door so leave it as close as you can, that way when YOU go back to install the Threshold for the customer then it will fit perfect…..This could be you second job you landed and it is a referral…The best kind of job…

Re: Space Below A Door

I would not try to guess the clearance of a sill that is not in hand, unless you just decide on one for him, and cut accordingly. I would just leave enough clearance for the door to operate, and let hin fit it when he adds the sill.

Re: Space Below A Door

thank you all, after deliberating on this overnight, I've decided to just go and buy the sill and install it when I assemble the door/jamb. that way its done right the first time.

That is exactly what I was going to recommend.

I know exactly the solution for your problem! This product:

I have it myself and it works great. Pretty cheap too.

Re: Space Below A Door

Look on the internet at the website of the most likely place to buy a threshold in your locality. I see a veriety thresholds on the local Lowes. Determine the thickness of those thresholds and then determine what type of astrigal if any you will wish to use on the bottom of the door. I would have probably purchased an exterior door jamb complete with threshold and insulated door since the HO wants a sealed door.
