Shop Apron

Looking for a good heavy duty leather shop apron, any ideas? Took a 10"oak 1x3 to the breadbasket today out of the table saw....It ain't the first time, but it will be the last unprotected.

Googled them and prices are all over theplace...most of the time you get what you pay for, but not all the time.

Ouch

Not sure about the leather part but my dentist has a pretty heavy duty apron that I get to where when I'm in the chair.

Sure you could find a leather worker close to you that would hook you up.

Re: Shop Apron

I would work on my tablesaw techniques or maybe your saw is not adjusted properly. I have only had one pc get me and that was on my portable TS and it was out of adjustment. Didn't get me down there, but my belly had a nice bruise for a while. I can't wear an apron, hell in the summer I have a hard time wearing a "T" shirt. Have you checked the fence to blade alignment? Is it pinching?

I would guess that having an apron would be much better than none. So if you can't make up your mind get an inexpensive one to try out. Better than nothing.

Heavy duty leather apron, welding supply store, or internet source.
The ones I've worn when I used to do welding were no joke, talk about heavy and very hot in summer. But they were needed if you didn't want to catch your clothes on fire.

This will be pretty sure to provide more protection than a leather apron:

No doubt it was my bad the slidw on my rip fence wasn't tightened down as I had been swithcing it from standing to laying. Was dadoing the piece and running it sideways using the rip fence and miter guide in order to keep everything.....was kinda stretched out to get to the rip fence.

No groin involved Got me just below the rib cage. Was pretty swollen last night, but bruised today. Got my attention though.

Prices online are anywhere from $29 to $100. We do have a leather worker aroundhere that makes saddles, belt and things like that. I'm guessing he would be in the 100 range also, just considering the work he would have in it unless he knows a dress maker with a pattern. They have one that looks pretty nice for $69. http://www.woodcraft.com/product.asp...FamilyID=21132

Guess I'll try that one. If I don't like it I'm only out $69 vs out the $100.

Well there was that time when they gave me the laughing gas and I grabbed the assistant inappropriately. She popped me back pretty good with something that looked like a stick.

It was "laughing" gas for crying out loud. I thought it was funny.
Once again, I was the only one.

Thats a lot of leather for $69. I would bet it's REAL THIN leather. Remember, you get what you pay for.

Re: Shop Apron

Got hooked up with an amish harness maker that going to make me one.

On the other side of the problem with technique...was up to the lumber yard that I deal with and talked to the guy in the shop. He showed me a sled that he had made for his saw that will keep me out from behind my piece.
