Senco Questions

I'm looking to get some finish nailers & Nailgun depot has a finish nailer/stapler kit that has 3 Senco guns in it. The Finishpro 35, Finishpro 15 & the SLS15 stapler, which is discontinued from Senco. Includes a carrying case that holds all three tools. Are these good tools? The entire set is only $209. I don't have any experience with Senco. Only own Paslode & Rigid guns. Seems like a hard deal to pass up. Any thoughts? They would mostly be used for exterior trim work, like decks, pergolas, fences, etc., but I do need to trim out my own house when ever I get to that point.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Senco Questions

Senco is a good brand, Home Depot sells the kit for 199.

I have all senco nailers...no problems at all. used for 10 plus years without missing a day.

Re: Senco Questions

That set is down to $149 at my Home Depot. I bought that kit last year for $99 on clearance, and I sold the stapler and brad nailer. The 15 gauge nailer is decent, I've been using them for several years now with no complaints other than the double nail firing between strips.

Re: Senco Questions

Senco is actually the first brand of nailer that i owned as far as finish nailers. I am pretty much all cordless now but I have a buddy that bought a senco finish gun when i did(about 7 years ago) and he is still using the same gun. I dont know why if you are spending the money now though that you dont go ahead and get cordless guns. I have 2 dewalt finish nailers and a paslode finish nailer and i havent used a compressor but a few times in over two years. just my opinion though.

Senco's are all I use, one of my trimmers uses the Ridgid finish gun, says its better that his senco. Not a big fan of the Paslode cordless.

Re: Senco Questions

I spotted this setup at HD one day a while back. Of couse, it was impossible to walk past the display and not have that kind of price catch your eye for a three Senco gun offer. Since I knew that this was about the price of a big Senco finish nailer alone, I began to check the model numbers, and found that of course they were all bottom end models. Probably still good guns for moderate use because Senco is good tools, but I would not expect them to last for everyday hard use by dedicated trim crews.

Re: Senco Questions

I bought that kit a couple months ago, it was hard to pass up the price, if for nothing else just to have backups. Plus I thought I could use a staplegun, but to be honest I still haven't used any of them. They do look pretty cheap.

My Hitachi 15 ga nailers, Senco SLP20 brad nailers, and Grex pinner work great for me, no need for anything else IMO.

Re: Senco Questions

The price is worth it for the 15 guage nailer and the stapler, but you can about throw the 18 guage in the trash since it is only 1" max brads. Also, the kit does not come with a bump trigger for the stapler. Other con is that the bag doesn't hold it's shape very well. Still a worthwhile deal but wanted you to know the downside going in

PS- As far as being cheap, they are the lowest end Senco Guns but still very serviceable. Senco generaly makes good guns that operate and hold up well.

Re: Senco Questions

hitachi 15ga, senco 18ga, and a grex pinner is the ideal set up. senco has 2 different lines of guns. one for ho and one for pro

Re: Senco Questions

i have always heard these are the DIY versions. i doubt they hold up to everyday use. guy i used to work for had some very old sencos that worked better than any other gun he had.but he did buy newer model sencos that didnt last very long. i guess they dont make them like they used to. i would recommend hitachi. so far this is the best gun i have ever used. and if you buy it from lowes you get a 5 yr warrenty, no questions asked. at least here you do. so far i have only taken back 1 of them b/c a jackass was shooting into a concrete wall and it broke the driver, but they gave me a new 1 without a problem. home depot does this with the rigid guns also.i have 1 rigid but seldom use it because i dont like it.lifetime warrenty kinda hard to pass up on though.

Re: Senco Questions

The old Sencos are better than the new ones. The SFN40 is an older gun and it's a tank. Mine still works like it's new. The newer Sencos have been cheapened, I imagine because they want to sell them to the masses at a low price. They will not hold up to everyday pounding of trimming houses. If you are just going to use it here and there it'll probably be OK for a while.

Sadly, there are no tool stores left within a 45 minute drive of my house. Once every few months I make the 1 hour trek to the nearest tool store and make any large purchases, unfortunately that tool store does not support my favorite brands. I buy most of my tools online these days.
