Question

Scewdriver Bits.

Just wondered what brands of screwdriver bits you use in the USA as here in England a decent quality bit seems hard to come across at the minute. We have De-walt,Wera etc but i thought it may be worth paying the shipping to get some decent equipment[not just bits but other tools aswell]. This is awkward when i am not familiar with your brand names- as you can imagine.Thanks.

Re: Scewdriver Bits.

Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, Industrial, Irwin are all junk...Best I've found so far are Hilti.

http://www.hilti.ca/holca/modules/pr...ATE_OID=-32730

But they don't have any long bits...nor do they have Phillips Pozilock.

Finding good drives is about as hard as finding good screwdrivers...

Looper to left field...basehit!

I use them as well, they seem to really grip the screw. I have had spotty quality (I think) Some packs seem to break quickly, others will wear out before they break.

Re: Scewdriver Bits.

I have been using the same Wera #2 phillips bit for a year, still just as good as new.
I know it is the same one, I have only 2 of them and the other is still a virgin.

Storage for 6 tips on my drill is real handy for not losing them either.

I can agree that Dewalt bits are junk. I bought a couple packs and went through 4 bits in half a day. I wont buy anymore

Re: Scewdriver Bits.

Here in Germany the only screws or bits worth using are Wurth. They have just got in to the English market but have aimed for the car Industry market, man search for them and just buy them. They are way ahead of all the others

I have no warm feelings for them.
They bought out my best local
supplier, and are now very much
oriented to industrial supply.
They don't want to sell in the
quantities I need, nor are they
interested in occasional buyers
like me.

Keeping the same bit for a year? You just have to be full of it! My son can loose a dozen an hour!

I actually have a few torx bits that are way over a few years old, and I got them from GRK....they come a few to a box of screws, or used to. they are the best I have found.

I have never found a #2 phillips that holds up for us, but then, since we rarely drywall anymore, it isn't an issue.

I understand what your saying Neo but here I can order any amount I want and have them delivered. But here they are only interested in the professional market. In the U.K.it looks like the are only interested in the auto market and nothing else.

Re: Scewdriver Bits.

You guys ever looked into LOX? It's an offset Robertson, actually a really good screw made by Grabber.

When we get the bits we tap the ends on a grinder wheel to take out the 'pointyness' which allows them to literally stick to the screws.

Really true about that tip. All my torx tips are GRK and I have the three I always use for a year as well.

I really got motivated about storage and orginization last summer.

Can't beat GRK screws or tips. Those things are awesome. Expensive as heck, but awesome to use.

I use to do that when I was taking apart cars or british speakers with Pozi's. I know a few mechanics that do it to their phillips tips, but the good bits you don't have to.
