Ribbed Groin Vault Ceiling

Hi craftsmen, I'm doing a pretty cool project right now. I'ts a 12x12 inside dem. wine cellar with a ribbed groin vault ceiling.... all brick ceiling and all.I'm using thin brick over 6" c.m.u. for the walls and thin brick over framing for the ceiling.I will post pictures as I go along.

Monolithic Groin Vaults:

I would be interested in seeing photos of your work. I have been working modular groin vaults as well as monolithic groin vaults constructed of a variety of catenary arches, traditional classical arches, as well as ribbed compound arch designs. It is difficult in today’s world to find craftsmen that have the skill to produce cross vaulting, also modern construction budgets and schedules seldom accommodate construction of groin vaulting even if skilled construction crews can be found. For this reason I have been working on modular low-cost concrete forming systems for building monolithic groin vaults that are structurally load bearing, and can be quickly produced by low-skilled laborers. One of the problems with modular forming rib vaults is producing them quickly and at low cost while having the flexibility to distribute the loading to 4, 5, 6 or more columns, which may vary in spacing throughout the structure.

It is my goal to reintroduce Classical Architecture in the modern world in a cost effective and time efficient manner.

David.
