Reccomendations For Base And Case

Im doing a total gut rehab of an 1898 grand victorian. The thing is its in a not so good place to live. It will be marketed to lower income families. I would like to stick to the style of the home but I think it would be too costly. Would 3 1/4 colonial base and 2 1/4 case be ok? I just removed some nice 3 piece base like 8 inches tall. I wish there was money to put that back in but theres not.

I think it's a shame, but if you say there's no money for it... who's the owner and do they care at all about resale value? Are the ceilings high? Is there crown?

The city owns it.

Osborn,

Well obviously what you have to do is storm into the mayor's office and tell him what an idiot he was for suggesting home depot molding, but that you'll keep it to yourself after he signs for the architectural millwork that belongs in there.

Have fun!

One thing my dad always taught me,
"Gotta remember who its for."
If you do nice work in a house like that, the city is going to rent it out to someone who doesnt care about the work, and two months into it, there is going to be washing machine over flow, and a stove blow up, and all that work will be for naught.

Can we also assume that the hardwood floors will be covered with indoor outdoor carpet? If it is a town property, complain to the historical society and see if they want to raise a fuss.
