Railing Drill Bits

Looking for some opinions on what bits most of you guys use for railing install's( especilally for drilling holes for spindles) Currently I use irwin speedbor's, but they don't seem to last very long...

Would using a different application drill bit be better and last longer ( one little nail and those bits are toast .... )

Spade bits are easy to touch up with
a jewelers's file.
What are these nails doing in a new
hand rail anyway?

Re: Railing Drill Bits

Personally I like to use a brace and bit,
but I don't like to drill nails with them
either.

Re: Railing Drill Bits

Keep it simple. Glue and Brad them....! screw and plug is how they used to do it... However, I rarely get wood spindles jobs usually all powered coated metal spindles and maple wood rails and newels.

The Drill bits I use most often are...1/2 forestner bit, 3/16" x 12" aircraft bit...., SS drill bits. spadebits I never use for wood plugs not snug enough.
