Quote On A Coffered Ceiling???

just wondering how you would quote a coffered ceiling? the one i will be doing will be hardwood. im not doing any of the staining, just the frame and install. the room is about 16'x10'. he wants 6 coffers. 2x3=6. would you price it per coffer or sqr foot, or lin ft of mat? i have done a few coffers in the past for myself, friends and family. i have never priced one for a customer. any tips on a quote??? thanks folks

Re: Quote On A Coffered Ceiling???

Coffered ceilings are kind of a pain in the neck, literally. I have underestimated the labor side of them in the past...
How high is the ceiling? Are there obstacles in the room that you'll have to work around? If you can set up two sets of scaffold and roll them through the room that's sweet. If you have to work off ladders, double your labor time.

Just like anything else, estimate the time you feel it'll take you, figure materials & do the math on your hourly wage & material markup. Sounds like you've got the experience from other jobs to ballpark how long it will take.

Therma-ply

cardboard like stuff. I wouldn't do this without it.

At least get yourself in the ballpark by estimating T&M.

When I'm unsure how long it will take to complete a project, I sell the job as T&M & explain to the client if they want a firm bid, I can give them that, but it will more than likely cost them more than paying me hourly. The usually opt for T&M, but some want to know exactly what it's going to cost & I give them a hard # that for sure covers my ass.
