Pwer Feeder On Table Saw
I needed to run some moldings out of fir. After several tries with a router on the bench I have concluded that running it backwards is the only way to avoid blow outs.
I figured now would be a good time to mount my power feeder on the table saw that doubles as a router table. I set the feeder at 16fps and ran it backwards through the router. I ran about five hundred feet without one blow out. Since I had the feeder mounted to the table saw I figured I would set it up to rip the moldings as well. I cranked the feed rate up and started feeding. I am not sure I saved any time doing this but it sure did a great job. Saw marks were barely noticable because of the smooth even feed rate. It was also much safer since the blade was no longer exposed and your hand never went near it. All I can say is..... Why didn't I do this years ago!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table Saw
That looks like a nice little power feed---Grizzly?
I bet you thought long and hard about drilling holes in the top of your saw! I've wanted a power feed for my router table. That one looks like a nice size.--Mike-- |

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table Saw
Yeah, climb-cutting is nice and safe with a feeder.
And nice saw, btw, - - here's a pic of mine with an attached full-time router fence (that doesn't interfere with regular sawing operations). Just feed the stock from the other direction for routing . . .

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table Saw
Tom nice set up. Are those rollers independent of the table saw or do they flip up and down as an accessory for the saw?

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table SawQuote:
Thanks, Tim, - - they're an (approximately $250) attached accessory, and yes, they flip up and down (I can just put them in the down position to shut the overhead garage door, quite a room saving position), - - and they also have two very convenient 'lowering' knobs that put them at the right height to still be operable when using a miter-gauge and/or a crosscut sled. Lowering the whole set-up itself is as simple as pushing a hinged bar with your foot . . . I'll have to have you over some time to check the shop out. Small as it is (about 20' X 22'), it's a pretty decent set-up (or at least to hear me tell it)

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table SawQuote:
I may get a larger one not because I need more power but a longer reach would be nice. I think it is going to be really handy when I am ripping a chamfer on stock or plowing out a rabbit or dado. No more shallow spots where the stock rose up off the table. No saw marks when you stop and start the stock by hand. As much as you try to keep the stock feeding by hand you can't match the consistant feeding of a power feeder. And as far as drilling my table it was really no bid deal. Tops are normally very mild steel and are very easy to drill and tap. also if I don't end up using it the holes really don't effect anything. Dave |

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table SawQuote:
Your fence rail is longer than mine, how long is it? My router table attachment is the same as your but shorter. Also I had to remove my left table leaf so I could install the sliding table. I love that sliding table although it is a crappy one. I would love to invest in a good cast iron sliding table. I just keep crying over the cost of a good one. I like that outfeed table you have. I have an eight foot bench behind my saw so I don't need it but when I bring my contractor saw to the site that would be nice. Dave |

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table Saw
I've always thought if I have a shop some day and it is big enough I would have a table saw exclusively setup with a power feeder for running rabbets, dados, ripping consistently, etc. Glad it worked out for you.

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table Saw
Nice fence Tom. The post caps make a nice touch. I'm jealous that your garage opens in the backyard so as to shield your toys from the eyes of the lowlifes.

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table Saw
Power feeds are definitly a time saver, and you end up with a better product.
Weve got one on both table saws and on 2 of the shapers, wouldnt have it any other way. |

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table Saw
To the left of your picture I see another Jet tool, perhaps a planer. Behind it you have a slot cut into the wall.
Is that a mail slot or do you run material right through the wall?? If that is what it is for I would love to see it in action. [/quote]

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table Saw
Good catch, Dave, - - yeah, that's a Jet 15" planer and it sends the stock right through the wall. I'm all about space saving.
Here's a better view . . .

Oh, and you were asking how long the fence rail on my table saw is, - - it's exactly 7'.

I was just gonna say the same thing. I love the slot in the wall Tom!

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table Saw
Yea, it could double as a mail slot, though it could get a bit messy if the planer is running at the time?
![]() BTW, really nice shop. Steve |

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table Saw
Wow, that shop is way to neat. How can you have a work bench with nothing piled on it?
I clean my benches and in a few shor weeks it is covered with tools and material. It drives me nuts. Do you have workers working in that shop or is it just you? Not that I can blame all my mess on my workers because I am guilty of rushing out of the shop and leaving a mess. |

Re: Pwer Feeder On Table Saw
Thanks, guys.
The pics were taken several years ago, - - but I make sure I clean up before taking them, - - although generally I try to clean up as I go along anyway because clutter comes all too quick in a small shop. Anyway, - - at present I'm getting it set up a little better yet, such as custom work stations, drawers built right into/onto equipment, dedicated built-in router-table vaccuum, outdoor-attached compressor booth with two hard-piped indoor stations and valved exterior drainage. When I get some time I'll show some new pics . . . |
