Problems With Columns

Anyone experience problems with HB&G columns lately? I just installed a pair of 10" square recessed panel that were terrible. The in-laid ogee was not completely routed in spots there were factory nic's all over the place with gobbed up putty. The cap and base used to be all foam with plastic molding applied in the field, this pair came with all 1 piece fiberglass molding and base which is fine but they were hand sculpted and wouldnt slide or jam up during install thus causing more bruises. I had to put in alot more time than I planned just doing cosmetic fixes.

Re: Problems With Columns

No offense meant, but are you sure they are HB&G? I've heard that is the problem of some other brands. But who knows? Did they come from a box store?

Yea I have a pretty good Idea what I order. Other than hardware and tools I buy almost no durable lumber or trim material from HD type places. Thats like ordering spagetti at a chineese returaunt.

tom i would letem now it asap, while i have not yet had a problem with hb&g, it seems to be an industry problem, these companies restructure, hire cheap labor, save themselves $, and cost us more in the field. its bullshi#. make someone pay up for the additional labor, it should not be you.

Re: Problems With Columns

For the prices they charge, I build my own columns. At least the square ones. Any problems with craftsmanship and I know who to talk to.

Re: Problems With Columns

I am going to let my supplier know tomorrow I took pic's but I doubt they will do anything other than drop a few dollars off the bill. I have yet to be reimbersed any labor for any defective material through the years. Rizzo they were not cheap $325 each plus tx....... Not that it matters now but they were heavy as hell for one guy to manuver. At the end of that day I tried to get a spec on how much they weigh but no luck. I would say about 150 lbs each if I had to guess.
