Plaster Crown Molding Install Prices...

Hello all,

I am new to this site and am looking for some help. I am doing some custom crown molding work in a very expensive are in the heart of New York City. It is a brownstone/townhome across the street from central park.
There are three types of moldings
- 5inches on the ceiling and 5inches on wall - 626 lf
- a 2 piece that extends 1ft 2 7/8 inches on the ceiling and 8inches on the wall - 82 lf
-10inch on celing and 8 7/8inches on the wall 382 lf

there are about 100 corners
and 5 bends that are extremly difficult that extend 15lf which have to be cut onsite with a knife, sanding and plaster

I have done crown molding like this before but not this size and bend is under the stairways and it isnt 90 degrees. it is a circular bend.

all information is appreciated.
Thanks!

I would charge no less than $1.00 and no more than $450,000.

Fair enough - I wish I could remember MALCO's post so I could just paste it

Post an Intro, say hi http://www.contractortalk.com/f44/
Put your location in your profile
Never ask for going rates, price to charge - pull a search on those two terms & you will see why - Lucky for you, you did post this in a sub forum not the General Discussion forum
If you need help with pricing - http://www.contractortalk.com/f16/pr...success-27899/

Quick question - would you walk into a bar filled with contractors you don't know & ask that question - what do you think the answers might be

Alot of these kind of questions lately. How much???? That means you don't know how long it will take(which also means you have not done it before) or ............when you did do it you were working for someone else and you dont know how much they charged.

Re: Plaster Crown Molding Install Prices...

1) No one can determine your price... how? you have to know your overhead and profit margin
2) This is a finish carpentry forum, I believe you posted in the wrong forum, try the drywall or painting forum
3) being in NYC, charge 2x what you normally charge. since they live across the street from central park, make it 3x, since these kinds of people tend to be picky about every single little detail. they have every right, they are paying for perfection.
4) Hang around the forum alot and read, read, many many post. you will learn something.
5) what do i know... im only 23, but have learned a great deal for the few years im on here.

For paint grade Poly mouldings I usually charge anywhere between $5-$15 a linear foot for labor only. From what you've described it sounds like it can be time consuming which would be in the $15 range.

$16,350 just on the linear footage alone, now add something for all the other BS, like the bends you described, and you'll have a total price.

Re: Plaster Crown Molding Install Prices...

Re: Plaster Crown Molding Install Prices...

To be fair, he didn't ask the going rate was, he didn't ask what you guys would charge...he just stated what his job was and where it was located. He could just be asking for pointers on pricing it out...his post could be asking HOW to price to the job, not WHAT to price it at.

To be fair....

and for not really having a direct answer to the OP questions, plazaman's answer was helpful...better then bashing the guy.

Yup! This is a DISCUSSION..not a "ask what this job would cost" forum. If he wants an idea of what it would cost...put down everything YOU bid this out at...prices and all....then the specs of the job..then say "Hey how does this sound?" instead of just giving some info and letting other people do the bid. Ya know? C'mon man.
