Pair Of Quad Bunk Beds

We have a pair of bunk beds going. Each one will have four beds.

I cut the panel molding the other day and thought there may be some interest in the cutting jig.

The molding steps off 1/2". So I have a stick of 3/4 to register the back of the molding to and a stick of 1/4 to rest the bed of the molding on.

The heavy maple fence for the saw is stepped back from the saw's fence a little. So I placed the 3/4tight to the saw's fence and screwed some strips down into it while keeping tha small strip tight to the maple fence. That gave me the purchase point to clamp the assembly in place before I cut the 45's through the fixture.

Here is one of the center sections of the beds. Panel molding ready to go.

Several of the tall bed parts.

And Wayne wanted his picture using our new domino toy.

We will be making progress on thes beds this week. I promise to keep you in pictures. You will be amazed at these beds. They have a stair case on them.

Panel mold is cheating.

That looks like Base cap that I buy around here. That Domino sure is a slick tool huh?

That molding can be used for wainscot cap. I'll take a close up just to show how little you know.

You do know that the domino is cool though

Re: Pair Of Quad Bunk Beds

I was busy for most of the day with other things and we didn't get a ton of work done on these beds but we did get some stuff off the list.

First, a close up of the panel molding for Warner's smart ass.

pair of quad bunk beds-1.jpeg

We got 4 of these upper panels done. The stairs will land in between 2 of these for entry into the top bunks.

pair of quad bunk beds-2.jpeg

These stringers were cut a while back but we should have some good progress on the stair cases tomorrow. We started milling the treads today.

pair of quad bunk beds-3.jpeg

Please forgive us for being such slackers today.

No, it was raining like crazy anyway

I was busy bidding 600 ft of cabinet for 50 hotel rooms. That took most of my day.

Again, please forgive me for my laziness.

Re: Pair Of Quad Bunk Beds

Gus, it really looks like a whole piece of casing that had a sectioned rabbeted out. I can get that all in one piece (3 piece casings) or in cap (panel mold form).

That is a quick way to make it look classier then it really is. I won't hold it against you since you got a Domino.

Re: Pair Of Quad Bunk Beds

I cut the cheating panel ,olding that goes on the sides of the stair sections today.

The angle of the sharp corner swings to 53 deg when measured by the Swanson big 12. Subtract that from 90 ya get 37. Divide that by 2
and you have the magic number of 18 1/2.

The fence block on the saw is cut with the magic 18 1/2 deg angle. Clamp it down and bring the saw back to 90 and snip a little off.

pair of quad bunk beds-1.jpeg

My thumb looks as if I cut this molding with it in this position. We all know you should not test fate this way. That would be crazy. I will keep my clamping method a secret.

pair of quad bunk beds-2.jpeg

Before these sharp pieces are dropped in place I nailed them together on the bottom along with a dab of glue. Lubed up the bottom and dropped them in.

I almost forgot to report on the new Domino toy. These are the handrair pieces. That little tool is pretty darn sweet.
