Outlets In Baseboard

i am putting new baseboard in an older house. the new base is considerably taller than the old. some of the electrical outlets are going to be in the new base. what are some creative ways that i can incorporate these in the base? i do not want to move the outlets. the outlets are laying horizontally. thanks.

what style of base? depending on the profile you could do many different things. take some pics of what you are working with and let us know.

Here's some I did a while back, I just ripped the top profile off the base and used that to make boxes around the outlets... not the greatest picture but you get the idea.

Ouch, that really calls attention to the error. I would have insisted on moving the boxes to be entirely above the baseboard or entirely within the baseboard.

Well, I agree with Greg. There is no way to make them look right otherwise. It's like having lights or AC vents so close to cabinets or walls that you have to stop crown molding either side of them.

I like it JL! I never thought of that. I think it looks pretty cool espessially for remodel work. Looks like it would work with heat registers too.

Re: Outlets In Baseboard

You said some of the electrical boxes will be in the base, seems necessary to make them all the same. The focus in any remodel should be to make it all look authentic. A good remodel really doesn't look like a remodel.

Box extenders, apparently it's the law (code). I have seen some fancy ones routed into the baseboard but you need to be able to access them.

To each his own. I think it looks fine, and so did the owners. Moving the outlets wasn't an option.

I like it. I'd like to see a close up, but I'm definitely stealing your idea if I ever come across this.

I've had to do similar installations of base around ducts and outlets. Granted, on new construction, this is an issue that should be corrected prior to finish trim installation, but sometimes, whether it's remodeling, or whatever, you may just have to deal with it, and make it work.

Here are some pics that are the same concept of how to trim-out the area. The concept is the same, whether it's an outlet or a duct/vent work area:

On contracted work:

In my own older home (tho, I ended up painting the vent covers an oil-rubbed bronze spray finish):

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with the work. Looks good. Better than good!

I just hope they are NOT planning to stain the trim to match the tray. Not appropriate for that, what I will guess is Florida, setting! Bright and lite is the way for that Home! (and NO! I do not mean the Don Johnson Pastels of the 1980's!!!!)

I agree, it looks pretty damn professional to me. No one should look at that and think diy.
