A blight, it started in the early 1900's, chestnuts don't do very well at all if they grow now. Pretty much non-existant.

Boy, that piece of trim (base trim) looks a lot like the floorboard huh?

Maybe my base boards are not ash. My door and window casings are, uh, maybe.

Chances are it is rift cut white oak. The smell of the cut varies sometimes. And by chances are I mean 90%.
