New Idea?
I was pondering the other day about better ways to secure my miters, in order to fight gapping.
Any thoughts and opinions on actually glueing the miter and then placing a 1/4" staple(s) on the backside of the casing, holding the two pieces together. Any opinions are welcome! |

Re: New Idea?
What type of trim?
You could try corrugated corner binders (instead of staples)that are used in picture framing. That would only work on thicker trim stock. Otherwise, just gluing and pinning it with some brads works best. |

Re: New Idea?
Geoff is right on. A couple of other ideas that may or may not help. Biscuit joinery........or rather than brads use 1/4" staples o lock it together.......or try predrilling then counter sinking a drywall screw in through the joint......or use a spline........or try epoxy.......or I think I need to go to bed......good luck man.
By the way......the staples are a good idea ( I assume you mean 1/4" depth uphosltery staples or some such beast ) but I have tried this idea andfunctions well to the extent that they will resist seperation anxiety but until the glue has set the miter may still shift/slide out of alignment and cause more grief in the end. Try it out anyways.......Always try new things.

Re: New Idea?
why reinvent the wheel, if glued and installed properly, should not be a problem

Re: New Idea?
It's at miterclamp dot com
Use all pins for paint grade. Take out a few for stain grade. Very good for bigger trim and casing. Tougher on the small stuff. Dan. |

Re: New Idea?
You should check out an article on Gary Katz's website about using a stapler to stitch miters together. I can't post a link because I haven't poste enough here yet. Go to www dot garymkatz dot com, go to the resources and techniques tab, the trim techniques link, and then the stitched miters article.
It's a good system for smaller moldings and mdf with a minimal investment. - Kit |

I'm going to a Gary Katz seminar on trim this Friday, I'll see what latest and greatest ideas they have this time around and report back.
