Need Some Help On Pricing

Hello I just started my Own company. I was working for a company that did finish work. Here In Washington State.

I am trying to come up with a price list for custom builders, so they know my rates.

I am thinking for Base and Shoe Moulding will be $1.25
Crown will be $5 per lft. Chair $4.00 per lft.

$150 per Door with caseing
$175 for double Doors
$125 for Pocket Doors.

I am not sure how to have a rate on windows or cabinets

I hope someone can help me thanks

I think a good system for pricing cabinets is per box...figure out your price for a base cabinet, an upper, and pantry. I dont know about window pricing.

I'd up it for pocket doors. They can be a bit on the unforgiving side.

Only you know that.....Can you make money at 25 per box? It sounds reasonable for standard base cabinets....I'd probably ask more for wall cabs, lazy susan, pantry etc. dont forget about trimming out. I would have a helper pulling drawers and doors, unboxing cabs, adjusting doors, etc.

Re: Need Some Help On Pricing

I was taught almost 20 years ago to count all openings (Int and Ext. Doors and Windows) mulitply by $ 100 and that was the price to trim the house (labour) included hanging prehung doors, case windows, 1/4 round, set hardware. Window buildouts are extra. I would assume you could go $ 150.00 these days. Cabinets used to be $ 22.00/box again 20 years ago, try $ 33.00-35.00 and see how you make out plus countertop was not included in that price. I have heard $ 80 per l/f here in the Bay Area of CA.

Im also in WA. Your base/shoe is low.. I get $1.50 for base(over 5" tall) and $1.00 for shoe. Crown and chair is close and if your getting that much for doors thats great.. Little higher than I am depending on how much casing detail. Full wrap windows take as much time as doors do so price it like that. Cabinets your a little low.. Again depending on the detail should be around $45-65 a box. I started my Business over 10 years ago and have a hard time raising my prices for builders I've worked with for a long time.. I think I'm still low..

Re: Need Some Help On Pricing

It all depends on how much work goes into the installation, not all cabinets are equal. Lowest $20 highest $50 + add for delivery and extras.....

I actually think this is backwards in a way. Lowes cabinets that need a ledger or a helper to install are more of a p.i.t.a. than custom cabinets that use a beveled hanging cleat. These seem to go up faster with one person than two people could install garbage cabinets.

Re: Need Some Help On Pricing

MTA,

I generally get $35 per box, most go up easy, some are a pain so it evens out nicely. On detailed or pulled/raised installations I charge a little more, or if the cabinets are "Big Box Junk" I may up it a little to cover the out-of square problems. Knobs/pulls extra as well.

A agree with Vito on the pocket doors, you need to up the price a little because of the PITA factor - they almost always need tweeking one way or another.

On the crown, you should add so much for inside/outside corners as well, as they are the real time consuming part of the installation. I generally figure $15 to $25 per corner in addition to the running foot charge.

It is hard to have a single "rate" when there are so many variables to contend with. Every job seems to have something "unique" about it that adds to the ease or difficulty of the installation.
Good Luck!

I'm lost... doesn't my post say the more work that goes into the installation the more you should charge? Who cares who makes the cabinet or where you get it, if the home owner/builder likes it yippy for them....Maybe you misunderstood me somehow.....
