Question

Need Help Pricing Trim

This is my first time on this site.I started my buisness about 2 years ago in NE Ohio.Business has been good, just finally getting the bugs worked out.I do anything from 1200sqft cookie cutter houses to 4000sqft semi custom homes.I am finding out that what one gc thinks is a good price another thinks is outrageous.Trying to get some idea from others in my area, what they might be getting for either sqft or lineal ft ,cabinets, crown, base, etc.

I dont live near you but these guys are not going to tell you what they get the best way is to call some comp and ask what they will charge to do your house and then you can price your work around that bid I will do that for tile I will call the shops around me and see what they get per foot and go a little under them its a dogie dog world out there and if you can stay away from GC and stick to the home owners you will do better any way they always want it for free if you still have a hard time then what will you work for for 8 hours and charge them that times how every many days it takes

Re: Need Help Pricing Trim

Here in Vegas: crown molding $ 5 bucks a foot, i pay my people 2.00 a foot. cabinets i pay $ 12.00 per box i charge $25 to 30 per box, top cabinets 25 to 50 % more, base board: from $1.50 a foot to 3.00(MDF) any other like poplar or alder from $2.50 to 5.00 a foot. Like i said; IN las Vegas Nv. try no to charge by sq. ft. we only do sq. ft. for estimates.

That is not a technicality, it is blatently illegal. A clear violation of both the law and ethics. If you want the benifits of a free market, act like it.

Wow, here in SWFL I thought I was lucky getting 2.75 a foot. That's just to install, right?

Re: Need Help Pricing Trim

well if you charge a flat rate like $xx.xx per foot then you are missing the obvious...corners and joints. they add up more time. also you have a big difference between molding profiles. some is more complicated and more labor intensive to install. best option is look at the job figure the time it will take you to install the moldings, and figure a price based on hours.

i have a system for figurin per joint and corner for typical molding work, but it only works if you are proficient in your abilities.

Re: Need Help Pricing Trim

I asked a similiar question a few months ago- best advise I got- same as what someone above has said- what do you want to earn per day? for me I try to figure on about 400 a day - a lot of "if's"! so far so good as I get better and faster I will re-visit this.
