Nail Spacing
I am attaching 2-1/2" wide X 3/4" thick oak architectural moulding to 3/4" oak plywood in a panel arrangement.
What should be the minimum nail spacing I should use? |

Re: Nail Spacing
OK thanks!
I forgot to ask if it is necessary to have two rows of nails at this spacing (one along outside edge and one along inside edge of trim)? If yes, then side by side or staggered? I should maybe also mention that the plywood is exposed on the backside, therefore I will be using 1-1/4" nails (so as not to protrude out the backside). |

Re: Nail Spacing

I've now cut all my trim pieces, and am about to pre-drill my nail holes. Just want to be sure what you mean. 8" oc staggered or 8" oc in-line in other words for a 48" pc - 7 nails or 13 nails? |

Re: Nail Spacing
They eye tends to notice patterns more so than randomness. Never nail in pairs if you can help it. Stagger them at least slightly. On a 48" board I'd offset a pair near each end and put about 5 more in between for 9. If you don't double up on the ends your board could warp out at the corner that's not nailed.
