Re: My First Post

On a few occasions I came to measure a job and the HO already had the list for me before I could take my ruler out, he had all the material list, what needed to be done and some had the balls to tell me how much I should charge I just tell them since you know everything, you can do it yourself, why are you wasting my time and I walk out.

Re: My First Post

Holy crap, the #1 is $6.89? Just Kidding..

I read a lot more than I post, but do feel I gain from reading, to see everybody else going through the same issues that I deal with, and the same customers. Sometimes I feel that others are dealing with the exact same guy..like greg mentioned "I figured it should be about.." you know the rest.

Re: My First Post

i don't know if you guys deal with this but i have had a problem lately with interior decorators.....homeowners hire them and they seem to be counterproductive to my our completion. you have a problem ironed out with the homeowners and then the interior decorator shows up! they will stand around and question everything that you have designed....them being paid by the hour...me by the job. and before you know it 4 hours have gone by and the homeowner is back with the original design i created....

Re: My First Post

When a customer asks me to break down a bid, I will give them a labor only price and tell them to price everything else out on their own. If they want a material list, I'll offer it to them for a small fee to cover my time invested. I will then make it obvious that I have more important things to do with my time, at which point I'll move on to other pursuits. I prefer to do labor only contracts anyway, I'll even help the client get an account set up at the lumberyard.

Designers give you all the unrealistic expectations, indecision, waste-of-time phone calls, and general pain-in-the-a$$ b.s. as architects... but without the education or experience.
