Re: Miter Saws
I went with the Rigid 12" slider, to replace an old Dewalt slider. It has some great features like the giant table and miter scale, which can easily be adjusted to 1/4 degrees. It also miters to 60 degrees in each direction. Unfortunately, I'm not getting consistent cuts with it. Wish I still had my old Dewalt.

Re: Miter Saws
My father has the new Makita and we both agree my bosch has much better gadgets in front, especially the all the degree incraments. They always get covered in sawdust and are placed in an awkward spot on the saw when you want to make a cut. Very hard too see, not a good design at all.

Re: Miter Saws
actually, that comparison reminds me of the little makita.
I'm a fan of the old dewalt: ![]() It's everything I need, and nothing that I don't. It also seems to be much higher quality than the new dewalt saw. the little makita is a great little saw as well, perfect for a trim saw. the bosch looks like the best new saw out there now, although I think I could do without some of the gadgets, like the rotating handle- just match the one on the dewalt, and I'd be happy. |

Re: Miter Saws
I think he was saying that the makita is a bad design, and I agree- I hate how you have to move the piece you are cutting in order to set the degree. It's a high quality saw, and I like the makitas with the conventional miter indicator, but I hate working with the ones with the table top miter indicator. is there any reason to put it in such an annoying place?

Re: Miter Saws
If the Bosch comes with a life time supply of pain killers it might be a good trim saw. A guy I use to work with had one. It's bulky, heavy, an WAY over kill. I use to laugh at him all the time when he was trying to move it from unit to unit
. A good trim saw shouldn't be a beast to handle. Can't imagine why any good trim guy needs 1/4 degree increments on the saw either. WTF? It's casing, base, and crown not aero space design!

Re: Miter Saws
The old model was good( 712? ) Dewalt messed around with the newest model. They shortened the rails because some had suggested they take up too much space. Geez........... To compensate for the shorter slide, they made the blade go deeper into the bed. You can't line up your pencil mark unless you mark it in the middle of the piece. 2nd - The 12" blade is actually cutting on the upswing toward the rear. If you're cutting ply, it splinters up!!!! 3rd. The dust collector sucks!!!!!!They made a 2 piece sliding tube that collects nothing!!!! nada squat. Sucks!!! Wanna by mine!?

Re: Miter Saws
New saw for me in a month or so and it's the 7.5 Makita. Used for trim only.
Will keep my double compound DeWalt 12" for other stuff.

Re: Miter Saws
Yes the new hitachi looks bad what where they thinking but I've never been let down by one . Bought the 8-1/2 some twenty years ago and its still going strong ,love it. I'm on my second 15'' hitachi . Very accurate , 1/4 degrees no problem ,solid saw . The first one fell down a set of concrete stairs two landings to the basement with one small dent . Indestructible The only problem with this saw is that there is no ware strips between the table and base , metal to metal .The 12'' double bevel slider is another work horse and my main gun . I have a dewalt 12'' double bevel slider but too much blade wobble and I just don't care for it . I've had Milwaukee's ,delta boat anchor and still have my old 9'' porter cable . Just a few we've been through and I've tried just about every saw and I'm still happy with the hitachi's

Holey Smokes! What the heck do you need a 15" miter saw for?
(inquiring minds want to know)

Re: Miter Saws
The general consensus is in all the reviews that I've read is that DeWalt's new design is not as good as it's older designs.
I have the sneaking suspicion that DeWalt is working on a Bosch beater as we speak. |

It's not really that hard to carry, - - you just swing the table all the way to the right, lock her in, grab each side, and tuck the whole thing up towards your chest. It's not really a matter of the weight itself, - - it's a matter of the comfort level in how you carry it. Heavy and bulky enough, though, that I haven't heard of anyone running off with one, huh?? . . .
