Lock Boring Jigs

Does anyone use lock boring jigs? I have been looking at various models on the web.

Most of the doors we are hanging are internal 1 3/8" (35mm) thick doors. We are fitting 2 1/2" long latch bolts and lever handles which is standard for here in uk. So the holes we are drilling are 7/8" for the latch bolt and 1/2" for the lever spindle. The backset position for the spindle is about 1 3/4".

Would a lock boring jig work for these positions? Alot of the models seem to have backsets of 2 3/8" which would be too big, unless they adjust to any position I suppose.

One of my guys split out the face of a solid stain grade door today while drilling so it got me thinking....

Re: Lock Boring Jigs

If that is typical backset in the UK, I would expect boring jigs sold there to work for the areas' industry standard. I have never seen a jig that has "open ended" adjustment for backsets. Since the typical US backsets are 2 3/8 and 2 3/4", that is what the jigs I am familiar with are set to handle. Your best bet may be to check with a source dealing with architectural/commercial" grade doors and hardware.

Re: Lock Boring Jigs

Same as troubleseeker said. Here in the US they are either 2 3/8 or 2 3/4. So the boring jigs are adjustable for those two dimensions.
