Large Crown On A Built-in Cabinet
I'm doing this job where I'm installing a built-in entertainment center. It all fits into an alcove in the wall beside the fireplace. The problem is that the design of this was not thought out very well.
When I got to the job the drywall was primed and the cabinets to be installed are sitting there all ready to be install.... life is good. I get the cabinets installed and when I go to put on the crown around the top of the cabinets I realize that there isn't enough depth in the alcove to just butt the crown into each wall. Normally this isn't much of a problem as I would just scribe the crown around the corner (bull nose).... but in this case, the crown will have to wrap around the corner for about 2½ inches. I did a sample corner and it just plain looked goofy!!! I can't do a return on the crown.... just not enough room!! I was thinking of making a simple corbel that I could butt the crown into. Any ideas???? Thanks in advance.... Bummie

Re: Large Crown On A Built-in Cabinet
that just plain sucks, anyway to pull the unit out the 2 1/2 " flush with the wall ? Corbals and maybe a second layer of crown to hide the mishap which you can return to the wall ?

Can you sell the customer on a smaller profile of crown?

Re: Large Crown On A Built-in Cabinet
What's the measurement between the front of the cabinet and the outside corner of the alcove.
One option: add a matching molding to the face of the cabinet (to step under the crown) to bring it flush to the fireplace wall, then apply the crown in plane with that--with mitered returns on each end.
