Why did you set up your garage in your living room?

Re: Kitchen Floor
The couch needs to go, waiting for 'fire' season.
Ash. I was going to have it be random width, wide planks. Now I am just thinking all 6" or so. Multiple widths just means more layout and work on my end. |

Re: Kitchen Floor
You say you are going to have it milled up, right?
Why didn't you have it delivered there? Or do you have to do something to it before it goes off to the mill? Are you taking good care of your wife while she is in her needy stages

Re: Kitchen FloorQuote:
My friend has a portable band saw/mill. He cut it 2 years ago and it has been stacked and stickered in his pole barn since. So I am the laborer in the expiditing part. All the mill is doing is rough planing one side down to a fairly even thickness. |

Re: Kitchen Floor
I spent the day with my family today.
I took the Mrs. and our daughter to the Toledo Zoo. Look in the tool section and see my reward I got myself. ![]() She has 5 weeks to go and she is starting to get grouchy. I guess I would too, those boobs and belly add up to a lot of extra weight. |

Re: Kitchen Floor
So is this going to be T&G flooring, if so how are you making it that way? Or is it just going to be made into boards and nailed down and you are going to call it flooring

Re: Kitchen FloorQuote:
I have not decided between ship-lap, butted, or T&G. For the milling I am planning on using a SCMI shaper with a powermatic feeder. ( I have a few friends ) ![]() No matter what, it will be face nailed with old square cuts. |

Re: Kitchen Floor
Depends on what look you want. Are you going for rustic or modern. If you want the nails to show do the shiplap. If you want jsut the floor to show, then do T&G. Does this guy have a straight line rip or is that where the t55 comes into play?

Re: Kitchen Floor
you got enough systainer/sortainers there in the garage to balance a kapex on, you can hold off on the kapex table to save some cash!

Re: Kitchen Floor
When I lived in NE IN, I got all my hardwood at Holmes in Columbia City. They had everything I could imagine, plus stuff like grey elm, sassafras, and more. Shipped large volumes of fabulous looking cherry and maple and walnut to places like the Netherlands, Germany, and Japan. Saw log trucks carrying Iowa walnut lined up at the gates in the mornings, loads of container trucks going out each day.
Where did you come by your stock? Are you in contact with some of the mill shops around Grabill, run by the guys in beards and staw hats, as a source for your planing and milling? |
