Re: Jobsite Mitre Stand

I hate cleaning up, hate it.

Even outside I hook up the dust extractor.

I would be pissed if I say a mess like that in a house I owned, no matter what was being done to it.

Mostly use it for outdoor stuff, like decks and outdoor trim, but have also used it indoors for trim. I have also done some siding with it using a 7-1/2 inch slider. I agree that the table is a bit wobbly. You can make up some little "L" shaped brackets out of plywood that screw to the 2x6 or 2x8 and support the front and back. That helps quite a bit. You will still get a little flex in the board you mount it to, but it's managable. I won't put my Milwaukee 12" slider on it, though.

For indoor use I primarily use my Festool MFT 1080 for which I have made extension wings out of MDF with a Kreg track on top. Works beautifully, but is a bit heavy and cumbersome. The wings attach with 3/4 inch bolts through the standard holes.

I also have a Ryobi, which is surprisingly solid. It's steel, so is heavier than the DeWalt, but I actually like it pretty well.

I do want a Saw Helper, and if they ever get back into production, I'll be the first in line to buy one. Very nice setup! I have tried e-mailing and calling for who knows how long now, and never get a response. I wish they would at least give us a status update!!
I am so bummed! I have been trying to buy another Saw Helper for two weeks. (This will be our fourth one). No return emails! Ugh! I hope they are ok, but it doesn't look good.

Re: Jobsite Mitre Stand

i made a stand out of some 3/4" pw. i made a base table with some supports on the underside simular to the new yankee saw table, just smaller. the side supports i made h shaped boxes from the saw to the end of the table. the plan was to make legs for it but i keep just using the saw horses. i was also going to make removable extension wings for it but i havent gotten around to it yet. very simple, quick to set up and had solid support all the way. plus i can clamp a stop block for repetitive cuts.
if i rember i will snap a pic of it.

Re: Jobsite Mitre Stand

I need a miter saw stand for my 12" Dewalt slider and while I have been looking at the Dewalt model I've been hearing some bad things about it. If anyone else has some homemade jobs I would love to see some pics. Oh, and I've had my eye on this for over a year now. Thought some of you guys would enjoy this tool ****. Make sure to check out the video. http://www.haincompany.com/?fmea

Re: Jobsite Mitre Stand

You can mod the DeWalt with plywood out feed tables mounted with an extra set of the saw mounts on the inside near the saw and you use the stock extensions to hold up the other end, works really well.
Haven't got a solution to those rubber feet though!

Re: Jobsite Mitre Stand

I returned my DeWalt stand yesterday. It's a piece of crap. All stands of DeWalt I see are missing the rubber feet. Only good thing is that it's portable.

When you get away from those cheap delta saws you will see that you can control the guard with your trigger hand thumb while squeezing the trigger and making the cut!
I dont buy a saw unless i can control the guard with my thumb!

Re: Jobsite Mitre Stand

ive been using a makita 24v for the last few years , it weighs about 12 lb so is easy to carry room to room and i use it on the floor, so no running back and to to the saw but my back is starting to feel it now so i have just invested in a dewalt 717xps with dewalt stand.

dam! that thing feels heavy

I liked the ridgid MSUV stand until it started acting up on my lately. I've not got many good things to say about any ridgid tool I've purchased other than their vacs.

Five Star, what outfeed table on your tablesaw are you using?

Why sweep when you can suck it clean with a vac when you're done? doesn't take much time

I have a Dewalt stand, and I like it, but, that said, I don't use it a lot, since my income is from management, rather then actually doing it every day, all day. If it got heavy use, I don't know how well it would hold up to my abuse.

That saw is scary looking. I got bit this year from a slow to close guard on my bosch and the lack of a good break.

I feel very safe with my kapex now. Blade guard is not in the way, the lasers are fantastic and the blade stops in about 3 seconds of letting off the trigger.

Re: Jobsite Mitre Stand

I won't consider the Delat 36-585 a cheap POS... It went for 250-300 in its day. Its not the same thing as say a Delta "Shop Master" or whatever. Maybe you have larger hands then me, but I can't work the guard on the Makitas...only ones I can do are the DeWalts.

Re: Jobsite Mitre Stand

I wouldnt like to say how many times i would have taken a chunk out of my hand if it wernt for the blade guard. To many times do i pull my hand up towards the blade when im removeing what i have cut and hit my hand on the guard.

Re: Jobsite Mitre Stand

Winchester, i use the festool mft 3 for the out feed on a table saw! i have the makita gravity rise which has different height increments!

for the mitersaw i use a trac rac system its the best one i have tried !(and i tried almost all)

TBF, the amount a saw cost doesnt mean its a good saw!

By you having to remove the guard tells me its a POS,my hands are average, and the only reason i bought the new makita was because i can control the guard!

Unlike the older makita and the festool! Though i like some features of the kapex, one draw back is the handle position!

I had the fight with my guard on a older model delta saw and lost, just trying to look out for my fellow man and tell you you can be the best carpenter always paying attention but that one split sec it will bite you or some one else!

GOOD LUCK

I too use my mft/3 with my portable table saw, it is at the right height for the bosch.

I like the handle position of the kapex, the double saftey trigger is just like their rail saws. The reason they designed the handle the way it is, is for one reason, its accurate. You are pushing straight down in plane with the blade, no matter what you are cutting.

My bosch and a few others I used, I noticed some head flex from having the handle off to the side of the blade. I have no flex in the head of the kapex and no deflection. For a prtable saw, it is as close as you can get to a big stationary Omga or the like.
