High Profile Job: Local TV Set

Got to look at an interesting job yesterday, building a new "news desk" for the local cable news channel. It would be a good job to get. Build a custom desk shaped like a kidney bean.

If I get the job, My work would be on air several times a day (just in my local market, but hey, that's where I want to work).

This is the old desk, the new one will be similar but larger and with a few more curves:

That will be nice bragging rights.

Hope you get to take a close look
at the old one.
TV sets are like display work and
stage sets....usually not really
furniture grade joinery required.

If you offer to take part of your pay in the form of television spots, it might help you get the job and build your image as a professional even more.

Wow, I can see why they are wanting to update the set.

Good for Mr. Bass!

What a great thing!

If I were you I would find a shop that will cut parts for you on a cnc. These types of jobs can be done without one but man I'm telling you they are not that difficult to do with one.

You could probably win a bicycle race pedaling with your hands but your chances are better using your legs.

Give me a call if you want, I'd love to help if I could. At least convince you of the advantages of finding a machine.

Good point about the cheesy stage set quality. I would like to move the quality up a notch.

Great idea Bill. I will mention that option to the news guy on monday.

Yeah, the old set is like something from a Jr. High play. Somehow it has looked better "on air". I bet they have to upgrade due to the change to HD. All the sudden cabinet guys and plastic surgeons are getting more calls.

Gus, I will look into the CNC approach. It may depend on how busy I am.

As far as peddling a bicycle with your hands... a guy I graduated from high school with in Colorado won the World Paracycling Championship in 2002. He broke his neck in a diving accident. It ruined his world at the time, but he has gone on to do great things.
