has anyone made one of these?
What type of hinges did you use?
Any diagrams you could share?

Re: Hidden Bookshelf Door

I made one years ago, came out pretty cool (no pics of course, so I'm probably lying).

I think the hinges were Soss barrel hinges...real smooth and very strong.

Re: Hidden Bookshelf Door

Here's a link to soss:

http://www.soss.com/productdesc/barrel.asp

I see on one page it says NOT for vertical applications or load bearing, so do a little research.

Sorry I don't remember more, but it was about 10 years ago.

Re: Hidden Bookshelf Door

I'll second the Gary Katz recommendation. It seems to be a favored topic of his on another forum.

Good Luck

Re: Hidden Bookshelf Door

I just built 5 (9 if you count hidden panels) on the job I'm on now! Not as difficult as you might think. I'd be happy to share what I've learned! But as Gary Katz seems to charge, you'll have to PM me for free!

May do that, I have an idea, but we wont be starting it right away, that project has been put on hold by the HO.

Re: Hidden Bookshelf Door

There was an article in FHB last year I believe, covered many design and hardware aspects, not sure of the issue number, can anybody look it up? I'm out of town again...

Re: Hidden Bookshelf Door

I haven't done one in a long time, but am planning to in my new house.

I used Rixson pivot sets for bookcases, this way the load goes right to the floor and not to the side of the adjoining case or wall.

Re: Hidden Bookshelf Door

We just finished one. I'll post some pictures soon. We used regular butt hinges and a spring loaded gate caster. The cabinet was only 30" wide.
