That's just wrong.
Leo would give away the secret anyway. You know that thing they do to scare the enemy. Oooo that would be scary.

I'll just pretend I didn't read that.

Back to good news... I got a letter from Fine Homebuilding and they are buying the "bullnose crown corners" article I wrote back in Jan. for another Master Carpenter column in the near future. That makes me a "Plaster Master"

That's great news Bass,
You are the only guy other than myself, that I know of, to tackle the bullnose crown corners. We have different ways of getting there but we both appreciate the journey I'm sure.
Congrats.!!!!

Funny thing is...I try to avoid mud work, usually. Now this article will probably get me some more time as a mud mixer. You reminded me that my place has a bunch of cracks and a few pops I need to fix (flooding here a couple of summers ago did a number on my foundation).

Thanks. I will email a link to your product to my editor this morning. If they decide to mention your product it could obviously be good for your business. Whether they include it in the article or not, you might want to purchase some add space in the same issue.

BTW, my method is not new... others have done it for bullnose drywall before. My contribution is the addition of the dowels and the double layering of the metal lath (and taking the time to document it with photos and write an article). Ornamental plaster guys have been doing this kind of thing for hundreds of years.

I suspect one difference with wood and plaster vs. plastic is how crisp the edges on the profile are (profiles seem to have small curves in plastic where the same profile in wood is a sharp corner).

All the best,

Bass

I knew I could count on you to "take one for the team."

I just got off the phone with my FHB editor and he is flying out week after next to work on the crown article and do a "photo shoot" (good grief... now I have to clean up the shop) and I found out that the "vanity step-stool" article is going to happen too (so I have some more writing to do).

Gonna be a crazy next couple of weeks. Hectic, but good.

Well, back to staining cabinet doors and drawer fronts (just 11 doors and 3 drawer fronts).

Gotta run,

Bass

Yes, you do get to keep the tools. I have a big Metabo SDS hammer drill , a Panasonic 24 volt cordless hammer and (had) a 14.4 volt cordless that I got from a guy who reviewed each of those category tools for them. He got to keep them all. This was back 7-8 years ago, but I'm sure it's the same.

Re: The Good News Thread

First of all congragulations to you Gus! I'm happy for your success. You want to here peoples good news right?

OK here's mine. 3 weeks ago I was sitting around with no work in sight. I've had a small explosion of work in the past 2 weeks. First I got what is a big job for me, basically around $10,000 worth of work. Then I woke up to my phone ringing this monday and by the end of the day I had added 3 more jobs that will end up being around $8,000 worth. So now I just have a lot to do. I also made an offer for what will be my first home and the offer was excepted. I'm supposed to sighn some papers in the morning and then have a 10 day inspection period and close in 30 days. I also just got a nice new tool... Makita 14" power cutter, I've been renting them a couple times a year for the past couple years so it was long over due.

One more... After the plumber did his rough in on a job I'm doing some form work on I was moving some dirt around and digging for the footers and the plumber walks up...He say's "I was gonna backfill but my machine is tied up on another job". I had already figured I was gonna back fill and grade everything out. So he says "can I just pay you to do it?" So I said " whats it worth to you?" and he said $200? and I said "deal" So I got 200 extra bucks I wasn't planning on having!

Anyways...That's my good news.

Good luck to every one in 2009. Don't let the bad economy get you down get out there and hustle and you'll be alright!

That's fabulous Bass, We are all happy for you.

It's great to see that your work is being rewarded as well as being rewarding to you.

I consider myself to be a competent carpenter, and thoroughly enjoy seeing the work of "masters" like yourself and some of the other boys on the site.

Congrats - Now get ur a$$ back to the shop!!!
