He can never have enough clamps.
I have a bunch of "gifted" clamps and every time I grab them I think of the person that gave them to me. I think my kids are tiered of buying them but I never am disappointed when I get one. It is always a safe tool to buy him.

Re: Good Christmas Gift For Carpenter
Gift certificates from home depot are a way of saying:
"I really have no idea what you want and don't want to bother to find out so instead of giving you money which is more practical I just went to Home Depot and got you this 75 dollar gift certificate so that you could buy yourself something nice....but instead I'm sure you will just buy some materials for your next job with it and pocket the small profit and completely forget about me giving it too you....love your little sister" If you want a fun tangible gift that he will keep for a longtime you can go wrong with any small expensive handtool, go to a real tool store, he probably already owns every tool at home depot. |

Anything that comes from Lee Valley makes me smile. It's like getting something in one of the little blue tiffany boxes, but for guys with splinters.

Re: Good Christmas Gift For Carpenter
I think Gus nailed it with the clamps...$75 worth of quick grip clamps...tool boxes, tool bags...assortment of chisels...perfect for a general carpenter is a hole saw kit, maybe forstner bits!

Re: Good Christmas Gift For Carpenter
I keep telling myself I need one of these every remodel, I think I will get one now. It traces a circuit down to the breaker so you know which one turns it off. Would be worthwhile for the price, they're under $100.
