Glue Of Choice
....For the hell of it I went looking online for reviews comparing woodworking glues out there. I was really looking for Titebond vs Elemers ProBond...but all I found was reviews that placed Titebond II/III against Elemers Interior, and further more they all where water resistance tests. I could not for the life of me understand why they were giving Elemers the shaft and alway using a interior glue for these tests. I never saw Pro-Bond tested.....
What do you use? Has anyone else noticed this "false" testing...I am in the middle of building a Red Oak Arts and Crafts Bed and I have been using Pro-Bond. |

Re: Glue Of Choice
I have used the Elmers and the titebond I and II, but not the titebond III. I don't notice any difference between the elmers and titebond I. I haven't ever had a problem with either.

Re: Glue Of Choice
i usually use lepage wood glue, its available just about every where, but i do have a new bottle of probond.
as well i found gorilla wood glue and only used it once, for returns on boston headers i custom made for my own place. i find it very runny and takes a while to set up as for titebond, its harder to come across and its several dollars more than everything else so i buy it when its on sale at busy bee tools |

According to "Consoomer Repurts" (misspelled so as to not create web traffic for them...)
El -mers Wuud Gloo is rated Number One! Better than TB or Gureillea Gloo. For what it is worth!

Re: Glue Of Choice
I use TBII almost exclusively. I have had one failure about 10 years ago. On a cherry panel. I re-glued it and it failed again. It was something in the wood. Other than that, it work superbly. I had an old timer tell me he used the Elmer's and and never trusted it to glue solidly. He always used biscuits and/or nails to help. After he came into my shop to do some work and watched what I did and how I did it he started to trust the TBII more. He did a mantle and had to take it apart and the TBII glue held so fast it destroyed the project. Then we were making a couple of posts for an exterior deck. We glued up the posts parts and I had noticed something was wrong. We neglected to cut a few of the parts and this was one of them. The parts were pocket screwed, end grain to edge, and only for 3 minutes. We tried to get them apart, first by tweaking them, then solid wraps with a mallet, then I put a bar clamp on it and put a lot of pressure on it and wrapped it with the mallet. Finally the board snapped in half along the grain. The glue joint was still solid. Well, that convinced him and myself the power of this glue. The only other glue I use is the West system Epoxy.

Re: Glue Of Choice
tite bond 2
used some nano glue from e l mers on a project and it was a runny pita like gor illa. held a tight joint but there is excess runs all over the place. Love titebond 2 because it tacks up so fast. Great for casing and outside corners.

Re: Glue Of Choice
I use that titebond for moulding, it grabs quick, then you have a while to adjust, its real thick consistancy. Great for bishops (turnbacks).

Re: Glue Of Choice
Used to use Pro Brond Until I removed a hand rail and gooseneck fitting that I had glued months earlier. Very little hand pressure popped it. Switched to ProBond. tried the same test after a couple of hours and had to beat it with hammer to seperate.

Re: Glue Of Choice
Titebond Molding and Trim Glue is my favorite for most trim work. Strong tack, fast set, no run, no drip, dries clear, thick enough to fill small gaps (not that I ever need that).
I use TB3 for outside and cold conditions, and like both the longer open time and waterproof nature of the stuff for joining plam top miters. |

Re: Glue Of Choice
I have always used titebond 2, have never had any failures.
Use the trim and molding for trim work, and that works very well, its extra thick and doesn't run, sets up fast. |

Re: Glue Of Choice
Have to go with the pack on this one TB II & III and the Trim and Molding. Like the Trim and Molding nice and thick. As a side note all my boat work is West System.
