Fudge Factor For Biscuited Door/window Casings

Here's a question for you trim carpenters who preassemble door or window casings on the floor using biscuits and glue.... How much can the jamb be out of square or be wracked and still give good results with this technique?

It depends on how wide your casing is compared to the window size, and whether it is a stool and apron job or picture framed. If it is picture framed, then you will have to cut the miters to match the jamb.

If it is too far racked on stool and apron windows, you may have to make your miters to match the jamb too. I would let any racked window casing joints set up overnight before trying to force them into place.

Doors can be out a bunch.

Thanks, and absolutely old dogs can learn. Though trial and error has become my operational mode the older I get.

I switched from full time wood butcher to metal muncher with 50,000 lbs worth of metal munching equipment at age 56, and didn't know what a single one of the 16 levers even did on the first universal milling machine I bought.

I still don't know much, but I did learn where not to stand when those purple, smoking chips start flying.

Cheers,
Jim
