Frozen Glue

I left a bottle of Titebond 111 overnight and it froze. The top 1/2" is brown. I opened it and stirred it around. It looks okay. It's smooth - no clumps.

Does it alter it's quality when it freezes?

Is it okay to use?

Re: Frozen Glue

I have warmed up a bottle or 2 in the micro over the years---only for 4 seconds, uncovered, my guess would be that it probably diminishes the strength somewhat, but not enough to fail, GMOD

Re: Frozen Glue

From their website:

Limitations Not for continuous submersion or for use below the waterline. Not for structural or load bearing applications. Use when temperature, glue and materials are above 45°F. Store product below 75°F. Storage above this temperature may cause product to thicken and reduce the usable shelf life. If thickened, shake vigorously by firmly tapping bottle on a hard surface until product is restored to original form. Because of variances in the surfaces of treated lumber, it is a good idea to test for adhesion. Read MSDS before use. KEEP FROM FREEZING. KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.

Re: Frozen Glue

Why risk it?

The test may be interesting. But is a professional job worth the risk of embarrassment over a less than $20 suspect item?

Re: Frozen Glue

Most of the glues have 3 freeze thaw cycles. But from the looks of the spec sheet you should junk it. Why risk a project from failing when you can get another bottle for under $25.

Some of us are snowed in.
Why turn one's back on an opportunity

Besides Cleve can use the time,

that might otherwise be squandered

Re: Frozen Glue

Personally, I wouldn't take a chance on it.

Supposedly it can withstand a freeze cycle or two, you can tell by if it mixes back to it's original form (rather than staying separated or clumpy).
