Flipper Door Hardware Mounted Horizontally

I am sketching up an entertainment center cabinet and the HO wants flipper doors on it. The problem is the cabinet is 54" wide and only 18" deep. The doors will be approx. 36" h x 27" w. If I install regular flipper hardware the doors will hang out way too much. I thought about mounting them horizontally, so it would open like a clam.
Anyone else done this?

I think i like the bifold idea, you could get bifolds to slide into side pockets. If you go horizontal, i would head for a single door, hinged ACROSS the top, that slides into a overhead pocket, this route would produce an 18" awning hanging out above the opening. G

The bi-fold idea might be a possiblity. I need a little shop time to work on both ideas and get away from the paper work.

We installed this on Monday.
Our first attempt at the bifold pocket door thing.
Not that hard.
I can go into more detail later if needed

Nice looking piece Gus.
That is same situation I am faced with. I think I'll suggest the bifold option to the HO.

Re: Flipper Door Hardware Mounted Horizontally

I'm not sure that Blum system will work for me. The cabinet is only 54" tall and there is a window above it.
Thanks for the info.

The pocket door slides are by Accuride, the cable ones with three hinges and the metal follower strip.

The bifolding hinges are from Hafele. They have 35mm cups and are adjustable right to left.

I'll see if I can do ya a link

Re: Flipper Door Hardware Mounted Horizontally

Hey Gus, do you know the item number of those hinges?
I looked thru 383 of them and didn't see what I thought was right. Maybe I missed it, I am going to the eye doc today.
Thanks

I haven't needed there services yet. Eventually I will. They have a lot of neat stuff. I consider them like I consider Grainer's. They have everything, but you are gonna pay for it.
