Fixing Flat Screen TV To Bedroom Unit??????

Hey guys, would appreciate some help on a little problem we ran into on the job 2day. Ill put the photos up 2moro, but bare with me an ill explain.

Meself and my partner were fitting wardrobe to day either side of a chimney breast/ Fire place. We left the face side of each wardrobe protruding 230mm / 9"????... anyway
The purpose of which is, we have a new unit to fit in between the 2 wardrobes and over the fireplace up to ceiling height. and the problem is, the customer wants a flat screen tv mounted into to centre of the new unit a shelfed around. (Finished product no wires etc)
My partner and I are in disagreement over which way to correctly fix the tv so it is structurally sound and will not fall
My partner believes we will be grand just so fix to tv braket to the unit 3/4 chipboard (I dont think so)
Im think the way out of it is to bolt the tv bracket directly to the wall itself, and scribe the backing board of the unit to match the back of the tv so its nice and tight the whole way around. (Have unsightly joint lines where boards meet)

What to U guys think Wall OR is there a way to reinforce the unit???

I would through bolt it into the chip board .
Use the biggest fender washers you can find.
If it gets too creepy you could always use some aluminium backing plates.
Just make sure you do it a ways that lets you sleep at night.
Good luck

Photos are nice. What's with the red paint on the sides?

Who cares on the pictures, the original post was about the hanging of the TV. How did you accomplish this?

We made the centre unit to fit, sat it on the fire place.
The unit was sitting out from the wall the thickness of the board so as the cables could be run behind it, hidden from view.
And we simply measured where the bracket for the tv would be going and we, marked our holes onto our centre unit.
Drilled through our unit into block wall behind to give it a secure fixing.

The red paint was the old wallpaper, House owner was to finish this after

I think you need a few more shelves in there.

It looks good. Nice work.

Re: Fixing Flat Screen TV To Bedroom Unit??????

s for the tv being too high - i think you'd get used to it. when i was growing up, we had a console tv which was, of course, very low to the floor. we used to lay on the floor for the best viewing angle. then we got a newer tv and it was on a tv stand (up higher). laying on the floor seemed to put us too low for optimal viewing, so we went to sitting or lying on the sofa. since then, i've had tvs in armoires and on top of bedroom dressers - all even higher yet. and you know what? i've gotten used to them all. (when you're laying in bed, it's quite nice to have the tv up high.)

I know it was a bit high, its dat height so you can watch it from the bed the opposite side of the room. We made a cabinet, with 2 lockers both sides of a double bed, with overhead storage. As per spec.
I thought its turned out very niceFixing Flat screen TV to bedroom unit??????-100_1245.jpg
