Finishing Some Build-in
I have a customer that I got to do some build-ins for. I'm building them out of birch and pop. I need so advise on finishing them. I have to paint them. I was thinking that if I paint with a oil base and sand between coats. will I get a nice finish. Is not set up with a spray gun so I was thinking of using a good brush. Will this work?

Re: Finishing Some Build-in
Hello JCB,
If you have not painted alot with oil base it helps using Penetrol to condition paint.I am more of a carpenter than a painter but have done some. If you have other things you can work on in between coats I would try applying with a foam roller if possible. It goes on lighter than it would if you brushed but it dries alot quicker.Make sure you apply a primer also on the bare wood.A light sand in between like you said.If you decide to brush just keep a foam roller handy with a little thinner to fix any area of concern an then rebrush. You can do it.

Re: Finishing Some Build-in
i use the sherwin williams pro classic gloss on all my custom "built-Ins" with a good primer undercoat, that is sanded after dry.
sherwin williams also has a great primer that goes with the pro classic ask them which one it is. together you will spend about 70 bucks plus 15 for a good brush and 8 bucks for the mini roller. SPEND THE MONEY ON THE GOOD PAINT, IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE, been their done that.

Yessss, ProClassic!
![]() Best thing since shirt pockets. ![]() Hard as oil enamel, and dries like latex. I use oil primer, sand, and foam mini roller for finish coats. The ProClassic is really forgiving and comes out looking like a sprayed job. (Don't let the bubbles scare you they pop and it self levels nicely. Build thin coats, don't try to do it all at once)
