Hello People
I just gutted my dining room to rewire, and insulate. I have a fireplace in this room. I was told that I will have to frame out 1-1/2 in. on the chimney is this true?

Thank you in advance

It all depends on your inspector, if you have one. If not, you can do whatever you want to.

Most of the ones inspecting my work all wanted 2" minimum to combustionables.

I agree with Clampman. Common sense says keep the combustibles away from the heat.
